Stations and Starships TTRPG - Illustration and Concept Art

These images are for a TTRPG called, "Stations and Starships," which is a 5E, no-magic sci-fi setting within a homebrew world. All of these images are designed to be set within species descriptions within the book layout. Discussion of the concepts is done live on twitch.tv/runesael, under the guidance of the writers and lead producer of the project.

I am presently the art director of this project, as well as a concept artist and illustrator.

I had a pretty decent idea of what I wanted this character to look like when I started sketching them. This is the first image I used my own 3D sculpted references for the face / head.

Sculpts of character heads to solidify geometry and lighting. Figuring out how to use 3D to keep consistent likenesses has been very helpful.

The original Nelde Alu'ar (wood elves) were a little more wild looking. We ended up toning the archetype down for the final image. I didn't bother sketching full figures - they're humanoids.

An example of a very specific reference that was easier to quickly mock up in 3D rather than searching for a bunch of images.
